Geboren in Moorslede op de Koekuithoek op 10 april 1856.

Jezuïet-missionaris in Chotanagpur (Indië) waar hij het geloof verkondigde maar zich evenzeer inzette voor sociale rechtvaardigheid en ontvoogding van de adibasi’s. In Ranchi organiseerde hij met succes de verdediging van deze uitgebuite oerstammen. Via de oprichting van scholen gaf hij hen nieuwe kansen. Die Witte Ruiter, Libin Sahib, werd de ‘bevrijder van een volk’ genoemd. Door ziekte geveld, keerde hij terug naar Vlaanderen en overleed te Leuven op 7 november 1893. Uit zijn werk is in Indië een jonge vitale kerk gegroeid. Hij wordt beschouwd als één van de grootste missionarissen van de 19de eeuw. Devotieruimte in de Sint-Martinuskerk.

Missionnaire jésuite à Chotanagpur (Inde) où il a proclamé la foi mais s’est également engagé pour la justice sociale et l'émancipation des adibas. À Ranchi, il organisa avec succès la défense de ces tribus primitives exploitées. Il leur a donné de nouvelles opportunités grâce à la création d'écoles. Ce cavalier blanc, Libin Sahib, était appelé le «libérateur d'un peuple». Tombé malade, il retourna en Flandre et mourut à Louvain le 7 novembre 1893. De son travail, une église jeune et vitale s'est développée aux Indes. Il est considéré comme l'un des plus grands missionnaires du 19e siècle. Lieu de dévotion dans l'église Saint-Martin.

Jesuit missionary in Chotanagpur (India) where he proclaimed the faith but was equally committed to social justice and the emancipation of the adibasis. In Ranchi, he successfully organized the defense of these exploited primordial tribes. He gave them new opportunities by establishing schools. That White Rider, Libin Sahib, was called the ‘liberator of a people’. Felled by illness, he returned to Flanders and died in Leuven on November 7, 1893. From his work a young vital church has grown in the Indies. He is considered one of the greatest missionaries of the 19th century. Devotion room in Saint Martin's Church.
